Event description

"Some plays entertain, some comfort… and then there are those plays that make us reconsider perspectives. Unhoused/homefree is most assuredly in the latter category and I feel fortunate to have been provoked to a deeper empathetic response by the play." - DJ Salisbury

“unhoused/homefree is exactly the story we need right now. Not only did it give an important lens into the humanity of homelessness, it was also really entertaining and easy to relate to.” - Nicole Talbott

"Alan Levi has as much talent as he has compassion. The characters he wrote are flawed but relatable and absolutely redeemable. I hope life imitates art if there’s another opportunity for our neighborhood to stand up and do the right thing.” - Ayme Rodriguez Smith

Our one hour play is told multiverse style, in three parts.
Each part begins the same. A homeless person sits on a bench in a public park reading a book, but each part will end differently as the neighbors react with either ambivalence, or fear, or love.

This is a one hour play.

The November 12, 2025 show will be followed by a DISCUSSION PANEL featuring Orange County District 5 Commissioner Kelly Martinez Semrad; Christian Service Center Executive Director Eric Gray; Homeless Services Network of Central Florida Chief Operation Officer Brian Postlewait; and IDignity Senior Program Manager Micaela Cox.

The November 13, 2025 show will NOT be followed by a discussion panel.

Note from Writer-Producer Alan Levi on why he wrote this show:

In the beginning of this year, my downtown neighborhood, Wadeview Park, went through a trauma. The City of Orlando and Orange County planned to build a shelter for the unhoused on Kaley St. near our neighborhood. But neighbors quickly organized a campaign of fear mongering and lies, and shut down the prospects for this shelter. I was shocked and saddened by the heartlessness and wrote this play. unhoused/homefree addresses some of the issues the unhoused face, and honors the humanity in us all.
