Event description

Playing for All (Unified Sports) - CRAIGIE, Term 4, 2025

With support from Telethon funding, Special Olympics Australia - Western Australia is working with Home Education WA to deliver an inclusive, adaptable and fun physical activity program for home schooling students with intellectual disability and/or autism - and their peers.

  • Telethon - and the community of Western Australia - raise funds to support the health and wellbeing of sick, vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

  • Special Olympics Australia is part of a global movement using the power of sport to build a more inclusive world for people with intellectual disability and/or autism.

  • Home Education WA is Western Australia’s peak association for home-educating families — a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to supporting, empowering, and connecting families across the state.

What:

We’re thrilled to announce an opportunity for home-educated students in Western Australia to join Unified Playing for All, proudly supported by Telethon and delivered by Special Olympics Australia - Western Australia in partnership with Home Education WA.

Unified Playing for All is an inclusive, adaptable and fun physical activity program for students with and without intellectual disability and/or autism to play sporting games and learn together. It uses a games sense approach to help students have fun while getting active, practicing fundamental movement skills, making friends and developing important life skills. Unified Playing for All is Special Olympics Australia’s Unified Sports model. Unified Sports promote social inclusion by bringing people with and without intellectual disability together to play sport – because training and playing together is a quick path to understanding and acceptance.

Who is it for:

Everyone Belongs in the Game

The Unified Playing for All program brings together home educated students of all abilities, with and without intellectual disability and/or autism. The sessions at this location cater for children ranging from ages 3 to 15 years old.

At its core, it’s about connection—everyone plays, regardless of ability or disability.

Playing for All is perfect for those who:

  • aren’t interested in competitive sport but would benefit from being active and having fun with others.

  • who want to play sport but want to try different activities to build the skills, behaviours and confidence to take the next step.

  • play sport already but want an additional activity or to learn new skills.

Whether your child is bursting with energy, just getting started with physical movement, or somewhere in between, there’s a place for them here. The ultimate outcome for everyone is to enjoy being active – and to stay active for life!

  • Activities that promote movement, teamwork, decision making and communication, confidence building through a program aligned to the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education and mapped to the Australian Physical Literacy Framework
