Unitec Making Place | The Design Studio: Drawing Ideas, Making Architecture
Description
The Design Studio: Drawing Ideas, Making Architecture celebrates the creativity, imagination, and craft of Unitec Architecture students through an exhibition of drawings and physical models. Showcasing work from across the design studios, the exhibition highlights drawing as a tool for thinking, exploring, and communicating architectural ideas, while model making transforms concepts into tangible spatial propositions. Together, these works reveal the iterative design process—from initial sketches and speculative investigations to carefully resolved architectural outcomes. The exhibition recognises the importance of drawing and physical making as essential forms of architectural inquiry, encouraging experimentation, critical reflection, and material understanding. More than representations of buildings, the drawings and models demonstrate how students engage with place, people, and contemporary architectural challenges. The Design Studio: Drawing Ideas, Making Architecture celebrates the next generation of designers and the enduring value of creative practice and design thinking within architectural education.
