United by Obsession - Gala Fundraiser Dinner

Step inside the historic Buckland Church to begin an extraordinary evening where wine, food, music and heritage come together for one of Great Eastern Wine Week’s most intimate experiences.

This is an exclusive Gala Fundraiser Dinner for the historic Buckland Church. Brought to you by Friends of Buckland Church and Obsessionist Wines, United by Obsession is a celebration of exceptional Tasmanian produce, expressive wine, music and the simple pleasure of gathering around a shared table with a shared cause; to help preserve one of Tasmania's most valued gothic churches (circa 1849).

At the heart of the evening will be a beautifully curated dining experience by Chef Zac Green (formerly Waterloo Inn Swansea and MoVida Melbourne), showcasing Tasmanian produce through a menu created especially for the occasion. Each course will be accompanied exclusively by Obsessionist wines, bringing food and wine together in a celebration of place.

The evening will begin as you step inside this exquisite gothic style church to be greeted by a classic string quartet recital by The Tangara Quartet, creating a hauntingly beautiful backdrop against which to experience the magnificent acoustics and architecture of this important heritage building. The Tangara Quartet - Emily, Miaw, Susannah and Greg - will deliver thrills and swoons in equal measure, with imaginative arrangements of familiar classics and reinventions of pop favourites.

A short history of this historically significant church will be delivered by Warwick Oakman, whose deep knowledge brings this heritage site to life. Warwick is a Tasmanian based architectural historian. Guests will encounter an extraordinary collection of historic chattels—from original furnishings to rare artefacts—offering a tangible connection to 19th-century colonial life and bringing together art, craftsmanship, and storytelling in a uniquely atmospheric setting.

Guests will then be ushered by lantern bearers to the Buckland Hall for the ultimate seated dining experience. With limited places, this is an experience designed to feel intimate and unhurried — exceptional food at the table, Obsessionist wine in your glass and live music from accomplished harpist Blythe Singer filling one of the East Coast’s most treasured country halls.

Dress Code: Cocktail Attire

There will be a Silent Auction on the night to further assist with funds for the restoration and preservation of the site (including ongoing repairs to the stone wall and flooring of the church).

For those travelling from Hobart, bus transport will be included for attendees. Ticket holders will be contacted directly with further information, including departure times and collection details closer to the event.
