Join British saxophonist Sam Knight and Slovak flautist, vocalist, and composer Mária Reháková for an evening of deeply personal, expressive jazz, presented through two compelling sets of original music.

Sam will perform selections from his 2023 debut album Knight Life—recorded with acclaimed saxophonist Seamus Blake—alongside brand-new, never-before-heard compositions written during his recent time in the United States. Now based in Boston, Sam’s six months in America have been a season of profound musical and spiritual renewal. His new work reflects on the country’s contradictions—its tension and transition—but also its enduring spirit of opportunity, inspiration, and discovery. This is music that invites reflection and hope—a reminder that even in uncertain times, beauty can rise and speak.

Mária premieres a deeply personal new project: an evocative suite of original compositions exploring identity, heritage, and belonging through the fusion of Slovak folk tradition and contemporary jazz. Developed during her time at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, the music draws from the rich tapestry of Slovak folklore and the language of jazz improvisation to express both an intimate self-inquiry and a broader meditation on the evolving spirit of her homeland. Performed by a ten-piece ensemble of standout musicians from the Institute, this concert marks the first public unveiling of her forthcoming EP—just days before the group enters the studio to record.

Together, Sam and Mária offer an evening of music that is both rooted and searching, reflective and bold—a celebration of culture, transformation, and the stories we carry with us.
