Event description
All proceeds from this event support the Brookline Food Pantry, serving nearly 800 households each week.
Join us for A Community Jazz Evening, hosted by United Parish in Brookline, featuring the original music of Mária Reháková and Sam Knight. This gathering brings together local and international artists offering their time and talent in service of the greater good—sharing music as a source of reflection, connection, and hope.
Through the language of jazz and folk traditions, this event invites us into a shared experience of storytelling and renewal, honouring both heritage and transformation.
Mária Reháková, a Slovak flautist, vocalist, and composer, presents a new suite of compositions blending Slovak folk music and contemporary jazz. Developed at the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, her music reflects on identity, belonging, and the evolving spirit of her homeland. This performance marks the first public sharing of her forthcoming EP, performed by a ten-piece ensemble of emerging artists.
Sam Knight, a British saxophonist, offers selections from his 2023 debut album Knight Life, recorded with acclaimed saxophonist Seamus Blake, alongside new works composed during his recent time in the United States. His music is shaped by a season of musical and spiritual renewal, reflecting both the struggles and the enduring spirit of discovery found in America.
Together, Mária and Sam create an evening of music that is rooted in tradition and inspired by the journeys that shape us, inviting reflection, hope, and community connection.
