Event description

The Townsville Intercultural Centre is hosting the Unity In Diversity Conference, to be held in Brisbane July 23rd to 25th 2019. Bringing together settlement sector services and government agencies, policy and decision makers, peak bodies, culturally and linguistically diverse community leaders, academics, human rights advocates and community members with lived experience.

The conference will provide a platform for an open and honest conversation on the pertinent issues facing our society, including the Australian identity and how to create a new discourse for Multicultural Australia.

Key conversations topics include; positive messaging, inclusion, integration, employment, identity, mental health, belonging, youth engagement and other issues affecting communities across the country.

Practitioners from around Australia will converge in Brisbane for two days to offer a holistic sense of Australia’s multicultural achievements and identifying and dissolving barriers to social cohesion.

There are significant long-term benefits for providing a safe forum to discuss multiculturalism and race relations issues. By hosting this conversation we seek to create stronger intercultural connections, enhanced sense of belonging, a better understanding of interfaith and cultural considerations and the dissolving of stereotype and misinformation.

This conference is being supported by like-minded agencies such as Islamic Women’s Association Australia, Welcoming Australia, Queensland Alliance For Mental Health, James Cook University, World Wellness, Health and Medical Group and Multicultural Development Australia.
