    Event description

UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS MODEL UNITED NATIONS

Do we need a new Declaration of Human Rights? Join us and participate in a unique simulation of the UN General Assembly on the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The UNAA Victoria and the City of Melbourne invite you to be part of this unique one-day simulation of the UN General Assembly to mark 70 years since the UDHR was proclaimed in Paris on 10 December 1948.

Participants will be placed in teams representing a range of UN Member States and given an opportuniy to discuss questions such as:

    • Is the UDHR still applicable in today’s world?
    • What does it mean to be human in the 21st Century?
    • Is a new declaration needed?

As UN delegates, you present your country’s position to the General Assembly, interact with other country delegates during the caucus sessions, and move amendments to a Draft UN Resolution on Human Rights.

But we will help you! Information packs will be sent to all delegates several weeks prior to the conference and you will be connected to your other country team members to prepare your country’s position on human rights. Country teams will have two, three or four members.

Come along and be part of this challenging and engaging event.

Acting Secretary General – Professor Ian Howie.

Chair of the Australasian Centre for Human Rights and Health

Guest Speaker – Dr Maria O’Sullivan.

Deputy Director of the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law

    Morning tea and lunch provided.

N.B: the email address you provide at registration will be the email used to connect you with your allocated country team members.
