Young Investors Circle presents:

Unlimited Potential | Investing in Innovation

"Educating and connecting investors of tomorrow. Where we believe the potential is unlimited"

YOUNG IC will be hosting a Q & A interactive session with Pia Turcinov and Charlie Gunningham on "Investing in Innovation".

Innovation is all around us, opportunities to invest in innovative companies are everywhere. Educate yourself on investing in innovation with our special guests, who are successful investors in innovation and have extensive experience and knowledge working with innovative companies. We are very excited for an evening of education, connecting and insightful questions.

The journey so far for Pia and Charlie:

Pia is a recognized leader for her work in empowering women and supporting entrepreneurship. With qualifications in law, business and corporate governance, and 30+ years professional and commercial experience. She is a Director at Fund WA, a Western Australian venture capital fund that invests in technology-enabled innovative businesses in Western Australia. Pia is a seasoned businesswoman and strategic advisor to innovators, corporations, and policy makers. Her lived entrepreneurial experience, commercial know-how and diverse networks enable her to leverage, support and amplify the opportunities which innovation, entrepreneurship and the digital economy offer. Pia manages a portfolio of interests and sits on a number of boards in the technology, property, health and energy sectors.

As the mother of three adult daughters, she remains an ever-enthusiastic champion for diversity, equality and promoting women in leadership and business. Pia is the immediate past Chair of Women in Technology WA and in 2018 was awarded the Excellence in Gender Equity Promotion Award by the United Nations Association of Australia (WA Division) for her advocacy work. Her journey and experiences to date reflect her guiding principle – “navigating life with curiosity“.

Charlie has spent more than 20 years in Perth’s business, tech, media and startup sectors: from founder through to exit, as CEO, mentor, advisor/investor, in federal and (now) state government. Originally from the UK, he spent 8 years in Singapore before arriving in Perth in 1997. He graduated top of UWA Business School with an MBA and co-founded property listings site aussiehome.com in 1999, which was later sold to REIWA in 2010. He then ran reiwa.com, went on to be CEO of Business News, and work on the federal government's Accelerating Commercialisation fund. In 2021, he was awarded WA Pearcey Entrepreneur of the Year at the 30th Incite Awards, and in early 2022 joined the state government as Director Innovation at the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI).

Our host, Toto loves to live in the "now", a lover of hip hop music and dance. While he is not dancing, he is leading Young IC as the CEO, educating and connecting investors of tomorrow. He enjoys practicing his blue steel look, designing suits, investing in early stage companies, traveling the world and advocating for Inclusion, Diversity and Equality."
