    Event description

As part of international compost awareness week (May 7 to 13), Dr Brook Clinton will give a talk about composting packaging materials. You will learn about:

    · Understanding ‘compostability’ and what the certifications are based on.

    · How to identify compostable packaging.

    · How to identify greenwashing, where manufacturers make misleading or false claims..

    · You will be shown examples of compostable packaging.

    · Bring along any tricky items and we will help you assess them!

Organised by the SEE Change WasteLess group and Roving Regenerators.

This is also an opportunity to see the new premises for Capital Scraps, Canberra’s premier service for upcycling kitchen scraps, avoiding the generation of methane in landfill. Learn about their mission to build soil carbon by pushing the boundaries of composting!

Directions: Access 141 Canberra Avenue via the service lane, in between Canberra Milk and the Fyshwick Fresh Food markets. Look for the Lids4kids sign! (same building). The entrance to Capital Scraps is at the rear of the building, there is parking out back. Please note that the depot is not a heated space, rug up in case of a cool evening. As always, consider low impact travel, carpool, bike or bus to attend this event.
