    Event description

Join AMIC on Tuesday 19 March, 1:15-3pm in the Blue Sky Room, One Elmwood for a workshop on single-use plastics.

Single use packaging is commonly misunderstood and seen to be of little intrinsic value which often leads to its careless disposal and littering.

Well-designed packaging however plays an important role in minimising the carbon footprint of our food by extending its shelf life and reducing transport costs and its improper disposal is a loss to our circular economy.

With a focus on plastics, this event aims to demystify packaging through an interactive discussion over a networking lunch of variously packaged food items to provide an accessible insight into the science and engineering behind the design and manufacture of common items such as crisp bags, sandwich boxes and drinks containers.

This event is made possible with the support of QUB Queen’s Green Fund.
