Description

Join us for this invite only event at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre to launch our Community Quilt Project - Unseen Creatures.

The Victorian Quilters Showcase will be held between 9th - 12th September 2026. We have arranged for a special event for our launch to be held on Wednesday 9th September from 2pm - 3pm.

In recognition of your participation and contribution to this community quilt we have arranged for free entry into the event (Tickets normally $26). Please Register by 4th September to ensure your name is at the door and you gain entry into the Victorian Quilters Showcase for free! When you arrive see the attendants at the door, give them your name and you will receive a wrist band. This will also allow you to visit the whole Craft & Quilt Fair on that day.

The Maribyrnong River remains one of Victoria's most flow-stressed river systems despite almost two decades of policy commitments to restore environmental water. Climate change, historical over-allocation, increasing competition for water, and emerging demands from hyper-scale data centres continue to degrade river health, while many of the reforms identified by government and water authorities have yet to be implemented.

We are on a mission to change this by building public and political support for accelerating implementation and holding decision-makers accountable for the urgent delivery of environmental water across the catchment.

For the past 12 months we have been visiting community groups from Lancefield through to Maribyrnong sharing stories of the plight of the Maribyrnong Catchment whilst inviting them to stitch a micro-invertebrate. Over 200 people have been involved in the project and we have received 138 individual submissions that now make up a triptych quilt that spans 5.4m wide x 2m long.

This community project is part of a larger campaign to bring awareness and urgent action to the Maribyrnong and its waterways.

We have a vision that the Maribyrnong is known, celebrated and protected as a living entity, and has a fairer share of water.

Help us realise this vision and join us in celebrating the many hands and hearts that have poured their love and attention into this project.
