For women in media, visibility can come at a cost – from online abuse or workplace bullying to burnout.

Women in Media Victoria and leading Australian law firm Maddocks invite you to an empowering conversation about what it takes to stay safe, resilient and supported when your work puts you in the public eye.

The panel brings together multi-Walkley Award-winning Four Corners investigative journalist Louise Milligan, Guardian Australia’s social media reporter Matilda Boseley, and Maddocks partner and workplace harassment specialist, Catherine Dunlop. Together, they’ll explore the risks women face online and off – and what actually helps. How to protect yourself, respond to abuse and navigate legal options, all while maintaining your mental health.

Louise and Matilda will also reflect on their latest books – Shellybanks and The ADHD Brain Buddy – and the personal experiences that shaped them.

Join us for an evening of honest conversation, expert guidance and connection with other Melbourne women working across media and communications.

About the panel

Louise Milligan is a multi-Walkley Award-winning investigative journalist for ABC TV’s Four Corners, a Press Freedom medallist, a Melbourne Press Club Gold Quill winner and a best-selling author of both non-fiction and fiction books. Her investigation for ABC TV and for her Walkley-award-winning book, Cardinal, broke international news and led to her being a witness in the George Pell case. Her story I Am That Girl led to historic changes in NSW consent laws, and her expose of the Cranbrook School led to two government inquiries and the resignation of one of Australia's highest-paid school principals.

Matilda Boseley is an award-winning social media reporter and presenter for Guardian Australia, where she helped build the publication’s hugely successful TikTok presence. Her work on the platform has won her a Quill Award for Innovation in Journalism and was nominated for a Walkley Award for the same category. A former Walkley Student Journalist of the Year, Matilda reports on issues affecting young people, women and mental health, and is the author of The Year I Met My Brain, which documents her experiences and discoveries after being diagnosed with ADHD at 23.

Catherine Dunlop is a partner at Maddocks and one of Australia's leading lawyers working with clients on work health and safety, behavioural investigations and inquests, inquiries and Royal Commissions. Catherine leads the Maddocks safety practice and has extensive experience in helping clients with employee mental health, safety and well-being issues and in addressing psychosocial hazards. She has assisted large clients in dealing with systemic bullying and sexual harassment issues and in high-profile investigations.
