Good Citizens is on a mission to ‘Untrash the planet®’ by turning a discarded single-use plastic bottle into 100% recycled eyewear frames in Sydney. Harry and Nik will share insights and anecdotes from both perspectives, from the gut-wrenching ‘almost lose everything moments’ to the highs of meeting with the Prime Minister to discuss recycling in Australia.

We all know the world’s drowning in plastic. By 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans by weight than there are fish. Good Citizens upcycle discarded single-use plastic bottles and turn them into beautifully designed, sustainably-made sunglasses. Good Citizens idea for ethical sunglasses was born in 2018 over a family dinner. Harry (8) & Archie (6) were upset about how much plastic waste was piling up in the world. Two months later, a plan was in place to help Untrash the Planet®. The plastic from one discarded 600ml single-use bottle makes the frame & hinges of one pair exactly. No screws, no metal. It took Good Citizens 752 days to invent a way to turn the plastic of one single-use bottle into a pair of 100% recycled and ethical sunglasses frames. There were some very dark days but eventually Good Citizens cracked it and the sun came out!
