Unwind: End of Year Practice
Description
The end of the year often rushes to a close, with little time to pause, integrate and reflect.
On Sunday 6th December, join Jo for a two-hour restorative and reflective practice session, combining gentle restorative movement, guided reflection and rest.
Designed for anyone seeking to take time to unwind from the year, reflect on what has been, and make space for what is to come.
18 places available.
What to expect
Unwind is a trauma-informed and mental health aware session that is open to all. No prior movement, somatics or yoga experience are required to attend.
The session will be gently guided by Jo (she/her). The room will have natural light and soft music playing at times.
Jo will guide a session that starts with attention on the physical body. Together, we will move through a process of unwinding tension, holding and tightness through gentle stretching and restorative shapes. This section of the session will focus on restorative forms that release tension through the spine, chest, legs and arms. Bolsters, blocks and blankets will be utilised as supports.
The second part of the session will be focused on guided self-reflection. There may also be opportunities for small group reflections and shared discussion. All components will be invitational, and participants are welcome to participate as best suits them.
The session will close with guided rest and integration.
About your facilitator
Over the past 17 years, Jo (she/her) has worked across policy and practice in education, housing, out-of-home care, women’s economic empowerment and refugee rights as a strategist, manager, consultant and facilitator.
Holding Masters degrees in both Teaching and Education, Jo is especially dedicated to the transformative role that research and learning play in wellbeing, justice and care.
Extensively trained in trauma-informed, somatic and mindfulness approaches to wellbeing, in 2017 Jo founded Collective Being, a community organisation based on Kulin Country. Through this work, Jo became aware of significant patterns of attrition, burnout and vicarious trauma across the caring professions.
Taking Good Care is a direct response to these learnings, and it brings Jo great joy to continue connecting with and working alongside care and relational workers in this new way.
