UOW Meet the Researchers - Global Climate Change Week - Humans, bushfire and rising sea levels
Event description
University Impact presents Meet the Researchers for Global Climate Change week. Join us at the University of Wollongong's main campus for insightful presentations as they delve into the realm of evidence-based practices, particularly emphasising climate change. This is also offered online.Â
Associate Professor Owen Price is the director of the Centre for Environmental Risk Management of Bushfire at the University of Wollongong and for 17 years has been researching the evidence of impacts of bushfires on biodiversity and building and the effectiveness of strategies to reduce bushfire risk.
Owen will be presenting on Connections between weather and record bushfires.
Associate Professor Sonia Graham is a human geographer at the University of Wollongong. For over ten years, Sonia has been studying the social impacts of sea-level rise and associated adaptation policies. During her postdoctoral research, Sonia and her colleagues developed a method that enables policy makers to identify which social values are likely to be affected by climate change, and how to incorporate such values into adaptation plans.
Sonia will be presenting on Social impacts of human adaptation to rising sea-levels.
This event is open to the public, and the presentations have been designed with a diverse audience in mind. High school students are also welcome and encouraged to attend. Â
Each presentation will last 15-20 minutes and be followed by an interactive Q&A session where the audience are invited to engage with the researchers.
