Description

Let acclaimed urban ecologist, Professor Darryl Jones, take you on a stroll through the beautiful Williamstown Botanic Gardens to catch a glimpse of local bird life and to reflect on how we connect with the natural world. Author of the first field guide to Australian urban birds, Darryl's work investigates the complex and sometimes surprising interactions between people and wildlife.

    Darryl Jones

    Darryl Jones is a Professor of Ecology at Griffith University in Brisbane, where for over 30 years he has been investigating the many ways that people and wildlife interact. He is particularly interested in why some species have been so successful in urban landscapes, while many others have not, and how best to deal with the ensuing conflicts. His books include The Birds at My Table, Feeding the Birds at Your Table, Curlews on Vulture Street, Getting to Know the Birds in Your Neighbourhood and his most recent, (Be)wilder: Journeys in Nature. Wild Neighbours: Urban Nature Close Up, co-written with Ann Göth, will be published in November 2026.
