Upcycling Fashion Workshop with Collarts

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Forget fast fashion and explore your creativity by re-inventing your wardrobe with clothes you already own. This session examines fashion in both style and quality, demonstrating ways to recognise and reclaim the material resources found in everyday garments for a more sustainable approach to fashion.

Guests will rotate through three hands-on upcycling workstations taught by professional sustainable fashion makers, concluding in a styling session to share new and unique techniques of making fashion happen. No previous sewing experience is required and all materials will be provided, along with refreshments.

The event is designed to enable social connection through the sharing of fashion skills, textile knowledge and practical approaches to reducing textile waste in creative and fashionable ways. It forms part of Collarts X MFW22 partnership project and will use examples of the work produced by Collarts School of Design students (Fashion & Sustainability, Fashion Marketing and Animation courses). This collaborative project (on display in the MFW2022 capsule in outside State Library Swanston Street) has focused on upcycling the MFW volunteer t-shirts from 2021 to ensure they live on in unique and stylish ways, with no valuable textiles ending up in landfill!
