Event description

Enjoy a night of non traditional networking with inspiring women in business focusing on fashion and sustainability, hosted by The Reunion Agency and Word of Mouth Digital at Seed Spaces in Glebe.

We're all about sharing knowledge, experience, and inspiration, without the usual fuss of a networking event. No name tags, awkward excercises, or forced conversations!

The night will include time to mingle and a short panel session of business leaders in the sustainability fashion space: Jaana Quaintance-James, Chief Sustainability Officer at The Iconic and GFG, Camilla Shippa, CEO of The Social Outfit, Chanel Friend, Founder of Chanel Friend Image Consultant, and another panel speaker TBA.

The Panel will be moderated by Nayaret Ibanez founder of The Reunion Agency and Tash Williams from Word of Mouth Digital.

We will also be hosting a Fashion Clothing Swap Meet. Bring up to two garments brand new or gently used. You'll have the opportunity to swap, and any garments remaining will be donated directly to Dressed for Success. You can find their garment guidelines here.

Jaana Quaintance-James is Chief Sustainability Officer of Global Fashion Group, parent company of the ICONIC and three other internet retailers globally. A member of the global executive team, Jaana is responsible for integrating sustainability into all elements of the business’ operations across 17 countries and execution of the global sustainability strategy. Drawing on 15 years’ experience in multi-category retail, prior to being promoted to GFG, Jaana led THE ICONIC’s sustainability agenda and was responsible for delivery of THE ICONIC Considered, a ground-breaking way for customers to shop by their sustainability values, and the #whomademyclothes documentary for Fashion Revolution 2019.

In her role she draws on developing and implementing change programs that deliver sustainability and ethical sourcing objectives. She has strong expertise in internal and external stakeholder engagement and a comprehensive knowledge of both the issues on the ground and how to drive forward long-lasting change.

Jaana has a Master of Arts in Organisations and Social Change from the City University of London specialising in Corporate Social Responsibility and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations & Social Policy from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.

Camilla Schippa is the CEO of one of Australia’s most creative and celebrated social enterprises, The Social Outfit. The Social Outfit is a fashion label with a difference, created to provide employment and training in the fashion industry to people from refugee and new migrant communities. Camilla not only leads all of The Social Outfit’s operations, she also supports her employees by mentoring and guiding them to better integrate in Australia.

Prior to leading The Social Outfit, Camilla was the founding Director of the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP). For over 10 years she was responsible for managing IEP's research agenda, vast communication campaigns, fundraising and management processes from its start-up phase in 2009 until May 2018. Camilla led the yearly development of the Global Peace Index and the Global Terrorism Index and the establishment of IEP’s offices in Australia, North America and Europe.

Before joining IEP, Camilla held senior positions at the United Nations Secretariat for over a decade. Until 2008, she was Chief of the UN Office for Partnerships, within the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General. In this role, she advised on the management of the US$ 1 billion partnership between the UN and Ted Turner's UN Foundation and assisted in overseeing the activities of the UN Democracy Fund. While at the United Nations, Camilla was part of the teams responsible for setting up the UN Global Compact and the UN Peacebuilding Support Office. 

Camilla lives in Sydney with her husband and two teenage children. She is a Swedish/Italian national and holds an MA summa cum laude in International Political Sciences from the Universita’ degli Studi di Perugia, in Italy.

Chanel Friend is the founder is Chanel Friend Image Consulting, a boutique styling agency that promotes individual style over fashion. She delivers advice on a personal level using natural features and body shape to make clothing an extension of you. She styles for various retail brands and influencers, and also works with various girls schools and Dress for Success to help empower women through their clothing.

Chanel focuses on sustainable styling tips to teach you how to shop less and buy better, asses your closet to know and treasure what you own and gives you practical ways to upcycle, repair and share. 

Before starting her business eight years ago, she spent her career in the construction industry. After sixteen years, she took a leap and concentrated on her business full time. Chanel completed her training with the image pioneer Chris Rewell.

Chanel lives in Sydney with her very fashionable sidekick, Stella.
