Workshop Description

This workshop is designed to assist kids 14 and under in their process of creating a portrait for the Upwey Archies exhibition in a fun and supportive environment.

We will look at recognising key facial features, colour, tones, proportions and facial relationships in order to establish key aspects that provide likeness.

This is a hands-on workshop so students are encouraged to bring along their Archies board and any reference material of their selected portrait so they can get direct assistance with their subject matter.

About the Facilitator

Mark Azzopardi is a multi-disciplinary artist and practitioner based in the Dandenong Ranges.

With a career spanning over 25 years in the design industry his focus inevitably turned to a path in teaching art.

Committed to providing students a thorough understanding of painting and drawing principles, he now focuses on providing an all-rounded approach to art and design. He spends most of his weekends at the Sherbrooke Art Gallery where he teaches kids and adults alike the fundamentals of drawing and painting.

Mark's portrait Miss Aimee was the winner of the Upwey Archies Packing Room Prize in 2025.
