UQAS Writers Retreat 2023
Event description
Dear friends,
We hope you are having a fantastic beginning to 2023. If you’re looking for an opportunity to relax, learn, and (re)connect before another semester commences, we have an island getaway coming up!
Logistics
This year’s writers retreat will run from the 3rd to the 5th of February.
On the 3rd of February:
For those joining on the passenger ferry.
We will be meeting at the corner of Middle St &, Emmett Dr, Cleveland QLD 4163 at 07:45 departing at 07:55 sharp.
On the 5th of February:
We will be departing from Dulwich at 15:00
For those looking to car pool. Please join our Facebook group chat.
What to bring
Sand shoes, should we decide to go bushwalking (such as to see spectacular Blue Lake) Swimmers, should we swim (we should!)
Sunscreen, sunglasses and sun-protective clothing, including a hat
Paint and brushes, crayons, fine tip pens, notepad, musical instruments, camera – anything for your creative expressions.
Food.
Cooking together is the most cost-effective and logistically convenient option for eating on the island. It’s also a great social opportunity for the whole group. Please bring along ingredients/pre-cooked items for 2 breakfast, three lunches, and 2 dinners. For meal-planning as a group, please list out the ingredients you’re bringing (and sharing with the group) on this document:
There is FoodWorks and cafes/restaurants on the island, but shops on the mainland would be cheaper (there are supermarkets and a range of other shops on the main strip of Cleveland – Middle street and Bloomfield street).
Activities
Here is the draft writers retreat program:

. You’re free to participate as much (or as little) as you’d like. Should you need to rest, it is always an option.
Accommodation
We've booked 8 bunk rooms (4 beds each) to be shared between 16 attendees.
You're free to arrange room allocations freely with one another once upon arrival. Let us know if you have any preferences or requirements! Your comfort and safety is our upmost priority.
Finance
The retreat cost is $65 for UQAS members. It covers your accommodation and activities on the island, as well as linen and towel hire. Food and transportation costs are not included.
Thank you. We are very excited meet you!
Please let us know if there’s any question or concern.
Warm regards,
From the 2023 UQAS executives
