    Urban Resilient Gardening - Using permaculture to make your home garden resilient

    Sunday 14th July - 1-3.30pm - @ Northbank Community Gardens - Bellingen


    Presented by Linda Woodrow, author of the best-selling author of “The Permaculture Home Garden“, and Peter Lewis, President of Coffs Community Gardens and educator at Barcoo Community Gardens, this hands-on, interactive two hour workshop will show you how to make your food garden summer resilient, with a particular emphasis on using small space urban gardens for maximum production.

    Topics explored will include:

    • using permaculture principles to design an urban garden

    • working with your climate, and your range of microclimates

    • seasonally adapted gardening and eating

    • taking advantage of light and shade

    • raising seeds and seedlings

    • breeding up pest predators

    • techniques for building fertility and water holding capacity in the soil 

    • developing ways to avoid gluts and famines in the garden with plant varieties and staggered harvest times

    • strategically using vertical spaces, trellises, shaded areas and street scapes and public space to expand your available growing areas

    • developing trading relationships of garden produce and other resources with neighbours, family and friends.
