Event description

Permaculture Blue Mountains is pleased to present Blue Mountains resident Joe Tabone, founder of Urbavore.

Tuesday 7 May 2024 - 6.15pm registration opens - 6.30pm dinner - 7pm guest speaker

Mavis Wood Hall, Mid Mountains Neighbourhood Centre, 9 New Street Lawson

Our Speaker: Joe Tabone and his family live in Springwood at Urbavore, an urban scale Micro-Farm. A small locally-owned business in Springwood, he focuses on regenerating soil and growing vegetables, eggs and mushrooms for the local Blue Mountains Community. He also operates an organic Market Garden in St Clair, applying low till, organic and human scale practices at the historic Mamre House Homestead. The Urbavore hosts workshops and provides free resources to teach the local community how best to grow their own produce.  https://www.urbavore.com.au/

Our Talk: Joe will discuss Nutrient Cycling with local urban waste. We know that the Blue Mountains is generally deficient in agriable (arable) soil. Joe will discuss how he uses composting, biogas production, poultry and mushrooms to turn local waste into excellent living soil and natural liquid fertilisers to regenerate the soil profile and build fertility to maximise food production on a small scale.
