USCMA CITP - Case Conceptualisation Workshop (In person only)
Description
The Art & Science of Formulation and Case Conceptualisation
As coaches we often find ourselves working with clients who are navigating complexity in some form. In this context we can be required to synthesise large amounts of information and quickly identify how we will apply our knowledge and skills to meet the individual needs of our clients. There is a rich menu of models, methods and tools which have the potential to inform our work and from which need to select the most useful approach for a particular coaching client.
Formulation and case-conceptualisation are well-established in many forms of applied psychology and can be applied to the coaching context to:
support evidence-based practice and decision making,
foster collaboration with our clients
increase our confidence when navigating complexity
support the ability to adapt our coaching to meet our clients’ needs
aid reflective practice
In this workshop we will briefly explore the history and the literature supporting the use of formulation before introducing some of the key concepts that will support the further development of your formulation skills. This will be a highly interactive workshop where you will have opportunity to try out the tools and models that are introduced with both case studies and your own client examples. During the workshop we will introduce a model that will allow you to develop a process for applying formulation to your practice. By the end of the workshop you will have a good understanding of what formulation and case conceptualisation are, and how you can use them to support your effectiveness as a coach.
