Families for Inclusive Education - Online Learning Workshop for Parents

This is an online day-time workshop

CRU, with the support of the QLD Department of Education, presents this workshop for parents and family members of a student with a disability.

This session will cover:

Human rights protections in Queensland, including the right to education
Avenues of complaint for human rights breaches and discrimination, including the costs and risks associated with these
Other available avenues for resolution of issues with a school
Options to achieve systemic change and improvement

Nikki Parker is a parent of a son with disability who attends a mainstream high school in Queensland. She works as Education Advocate at QAI and assists families of students with disability navigate the Department of Education complaints system and use other methods to resolve issues.

Emma Phillips is the Principal Solicitor and Deputy Director of Queensland Advocacy Incorporated. She has a background working as a solicitor in industrial and discrimination law and a PhD in discrimination and human rights law from La Trobe University. Her work at QAI includes individual legal advocacy and law and policy reform.

Both Nikki and Emma will be co-facilitating this workshop with CRU.

The session will involve input on the topic and question time.
