    Event description

Saraswati Mahavidhyalaya is proud to present, Ustad Usman Khan, live at the Art Sanctuary.

Ustad Usman Khan is a world renowned Sitar Maestro from Pune, India. Besides numerous concerts in India, Usmanji has performed and still performs in Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, France, Italy and USA to name a few. Usmanji draws freely from the Gayaki Ang and Tantu Ang, which are the two traditional approaches in Indian instrumental music. The result is a celestial harmonious outpouring of musical notes. Usmanji has been conferred the title of Honorary International Dean of Temple of Fine Arts International, and was recently awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Amrit Award. His compositions for several dance ballets, produced by the Temple of Fine Arts International, have been acclaimed by critics and audiences not only in India but also abroad.

“Music has its source in the divine; and being a musician allows me to offer my work and my music as a prayer, as contemplation, and meditation," said Usman Khan. "And since I believe that music originates in the divine, it is only right that I offer my music in return to the divine – as a prayer”.

Listeners can expect to hear the unfolding of a Raga and the rhythmic pulse of Taal. The beauty of the Sitar will be shared in an intimate setting at the Art Sanctuary. Ustad Usman Khan will be accompanied by Siva Kumar on the Tabla. Do not miss this opportunity to hear the Sitar maestro under the stars.
