Event description

USU Enviro Week Bike Peddle Powered Outdoor Cinema: The Great Forest + Now

USU's Outdoor Cinema is back! A fun & interactive peddle powered open-air cinema at one of USYD's most iconic venues. Presented in partnership with Little Projector Company, this unique evening screening of two films - The Great Forest and Now.

The Great Forest (12min short)

The Great Forest is an experimental natural history documentary that focuses on the rare animals of the Central Highlands forest region of Victoria, Australia. By showing the beauty of the forest, through the eyes of the forest herself, audiences will come to marvel at the complex symbiotic nature of this ecosystem, from the forest floor to the canopy above.

An ancient Australian forest invites us into her rapidly changing world where rare life is discovered and inevitable death unfolds.

Now shows how young activists from around the globe such as Felix Finkbeiner (Plant for the Planet), Luisa Neubauer, Greta Thunberg (Fridays for Future) and Vic Barrett (Youth v. Gov) are currently challenging the status quo and pushing for social and political change.

The event will feature:

  • Appearance by Marli Lopez-Hope - Director (The Great Forest)
  • Our USU Food Truck with a unique indigenous and locally sourced menu
  • The Hidden Sea Garden Bar and free wine tasting
  • Free lemon myrtle popcorn for all

The USU acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation, upon whose stolen land which we operate, gather as employees and live. We recognise this land was never terra nullius — the land belonging to these peoples was never ceded, given up, bought or sold. We pay our respects to Aboriginal Elders past, present and emerging, and we extend this acknowledgement to any other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
