UTS Ageing Research Collaborative (UARC) Research Seminar Series - 17 September 2025
Event description
Join us on Wednesday, 17 September, 1pm - 2pm in RES Hub (CB02.05.250) for our next session in the UARC Research Seminar Series for 2025.
UARC’s Co-Directors, Professor David Brown and Professor Deb Parker, will open the seminar & introduce our speaker.
This month we are delighted to have Dr Serra Ivynian presenting on the theme of Health and Wellbeing through the topic of Enabling decision-making in a fractured context - using a transdisciplinary approach.
This presentation will describe the nature of our transdisciplinary work, the ongoing development of our consumer-focused multidimensional decision-making tool for older Australians and their carers, and next steps to achieve UARC's vision of economically and socially sustainable aged care.
Many societal problems are large and complex. As an institution, UTS is committed to solving such ‘wicked problems’ through research innovation leveraging initiatives such as UTS’ Strategic Research Accelerator (SRA). UTS' SRA focuses on multifaceted societal challenges through transdisciplinary work. Our transdisciplinary team at UARC, supported by UTS' Strategic Research Accelerator (SRA) scheme, is investigating the complex problem of healthy ageing in the context of Australia’s fractured and exceedingly difficult to navigate aged care system.
We hope you can make it! Please do share the invitation with your UTS colleagues.
Fruit, tea, and coffee will be provided, come a few minutes early to grab a plate, have a chat & settle in.

About the Speakers
Dr Serra Ivynian
Dr Serra Ivynian is a Research Fellow from the Faculty of Health. Her previous work in palliative care, aged care and cardiovascular care has focused on giving voice to people with life-limiting illness and their informal carers who are too often ignored. Her research interests include patient-provider communication and health literacy, people’s experiences within health and aged care settings, coping responses, and the impact of these factors on decision-making.

UARC Research Seminar Series Coordinators
This event forms part of UARC’s Research Seminar Series at RES Hub, offered in-person only to facilitate collaboration and connection. This series provides a space for researchers to share their work, connect and collaborate with other UTS researchers who share a passion for ageing and aged care. UARC is led by UTS academics from multiple faculties working in collaboration with researchers from other universities, aged-care providers, health services, government agencies and consumer groups with the aim of identifying evidence-based solutions to the issues facing ageing and aged care that is sustainable in terms of its fiscal, financial, workforce and social dimensions.
UTS Ageing Research Collaborative (UARC) respectfully acknowledges that we are located on the land of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation.
