Event description

UTS has partnered with Cicada Innovations to deliver a full day workshop at Cicada Innovations on Tuesday September 16th, 2025.

What are the objectives of the MedTech workshop?

The MedTech workshop will help researchers commercialise their research and benefit those interested in learning more about MedTech commercialisation. They will equip researchers with techniques and methods to analyse their research's market opportunities and assess their innovations' value proposition.

Researchers will gain an understanding of the critical elements of a viable business model and the unmet needs their research could address, which, in turn, will inform their future research and guide researchers in advancing the Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) of their innovations.

The core objective of the MedTech workshop is to help researchers recognise the commercial potential of their work, validate their ideas, and understand the TRL level of their research. Additionally, the workshops will offer attendees guidance from Neil Radford, the Translation and Commercialisation Manager (MedTech) from the Research Office.

Who should attend the MedTech workshop?

UTS staff with intent/interest to commercialise medical diagnostic, therapeutic and RNA vaccine technologies. Researchers affiliated to Centenary, Woolcock, local health districts are welcome to attend.

These MedTech workshop will provide valuable insights into Intellectual Property (IP), market analysis, business planning, and funding opportunities, helping researchers bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Criteria for attending the MedTech workshop:

1. IP Disclosure: It is preferred that individuals or teams (maximum of two) disclose relevant intellectual property (but not essential) to the UTS Research Translation Team using the UTS IP Disclosure Form in Research Master.

2. Focus on Translation: The researcher's IP should aim to translate research outcomes into impactful applications rather than conducting further research.

3.  Ownership: UTS must own the relevant IP.

4. IP Management: UTS should not be restricted in managing the relevant intellectual property and/or research outcomes.
