Event description

UTS Tech Festival (June 20 – July 01, 2022 )is a two weeks festival of events, showcases, hackathons, workshops, masterclasses, seminars, competitions, industry-student engagement and much more! Our goal is to bring together students, academics and industry to foster learning, inspiration, share ideas and promote innovation.

We’re excited to welcome you to our campus for the Seminar - A Glimpse into the World of Data & AI on Azure which is part of the UTS Tech Festival 2022!

About:

In this session we will explore the depth and breadth of the possibilities available in the Azure Data & AI space. Structured, Semi-Structured, Unstructured, streaming, batching, transforming, reading data any which way you like it.

After this high-level introduction to the possibilities, we'll look at one scenario, and together discover how these products can come together to develop a solution for a small section of customer requirements.

You'll gain an appreciation of the (near endless) possibilities of data options available within Azure, and hopefully a desire to delve deeper into these areas and maybe see what we data people do with our days.

Agenda:

  • Overview of Azure Data, AI, ML products.
  • How to move from customer requirements to an architecture
  • Using Form Recogniser
  • Using ML predictive capabilities

Presenter:

Tanya has been in the IT industry since she completed her computing degree in the early 1990s.

Across her time in this crazy world of computing, she has seen a lot of change, many of the career options available now weren't known when she started, such as data scientists. Data has become more of a commodity, and Tanya has been playing with data her whole career.

While starting as a programmer, though in those days that included a large amount of both unix and database administration, she has moved through being a full-time DBA, developed data warehouses, created reporting solutions, helped design data solutions for government departments, not to mention travelling around Australia to help install hardware at airports!

These days Tanya helping government departments with their data platforms and other data, AI and ML projects, having joined Microsoft 4 years ago.
