Valla Wildlife Spotlight
Event description
What: Valla Wildlife Spotlight, 6.00pm to 7.30pm for young people ages 10-18 and their parents (NOTE: each child must be accompanied by a responsible adult. One adult can be responsible for multiple children.)
Date: Sunday 23rd June
Where: Valla Nature Reserve. Meet next to the Valla Beach RFS fire station (near the water tower on the right just past Ocean View Drive)
Bring: head torch, warm clothes, binoculars, enclosed shoes
What: Andrew and Miles will lead the group on an evening spotlight walk through Valla Nature Reserve in search of nocturnal wildlife. Of particular interest will be a search for the Greater Glider, the largest of the gliding possums in Australia, which until 6 or so years ago were abundant in the reserve but have not been seen since. Are they extinct in the reserve? We will find out. Andrew will demonstrate correct methodology for wildlife spotlighting and animal identification tips, including the calls of our large forest owls.
