The World's Greatest Innovation Hackathon - School Holiday Program
Description
Get ready for two days of creativity, experimentation and wildly ambitious ideas.
The World's Greatest Innovation Hackathon is a school holiday program where children aged 10–13 work in teams to design, build and present something extraordinary. With expert mentors, hands-on materials, pizza, prizes and plenty of energy, participants will take on exciting creative challenges that combine engineering, imagination and problem-solving.
This is not a standard school excursion. It is a fast-paced, hands-on hackathon where learners think, create, test, fail, improve and bring their ideas to life.
Presented by Vantage by Unity, the future-focused Parramatta campus of Unity Grammar, this event gives families a first look into a learning model shaped by Unity Grammar’s close to two decades of recognised experience pioneering Islamic education in Australia through real-world challenges, creative collaboration and meaningful industry learning

Day 1: Build the World's Fastest Marble Rollercoaster
Wednesday 8 July 2026
Participants will design and construct the world's fastest marble rollercoaster using a range of engineering materials, ramps, tubes, supports and creative building tools.
Working in teams, they will be challenged to create a rollercoaster that is not only incredibly fast but also reliable, exciting and visually impressive. Teams will experiment with gravity, momentum, track design, curves, drops and launch systems as they race to achieve record-breaking speeds.
Challenges include longest track, fastest completion time, biggest drop, most creative design, smoothest ride, best theme, greatest engineering innovation or ultimate marble racing experience.
Throughout the day, participants will prototype, test, refine and compete as they push the limits of what their marble rollercoaster can achieve.
Day 2: The Worst Idea Hackathon
Wednesday 15 July 2026
What if the goal wasn't to create the best idea but the worst one?
In this hilarious and highly creative challenge, participants will work in teams to invent, design and pitch the world's most ridiculous, impractical and unnecessary products, businesses, inventions and experiences.
The challenge encourages bold thinking, creativity, humour and presentation skills. By deliberately exploring terrible ideas, participants learn how innovation works, what makes ideas succeed or fail, and how creative thinking can emerge from unexpected places.
Teams might create inventions that solve problems nobody has, businesses that lose money in spectacular ways, impossible products, absurd theme park attractions or completely unnecessary technologies.
At the end of the day, teams will present their terrible creations to a panel of judges, competing for awards such as Worst Idea Overall, Funniest Concept, Most Creative Failure, Best Presentation and Most Unexpected Solution.
This challenge combines creativity, storytelling, design thinking, teamwork and plenty of laughter.
Sign up as an individual and teams will be formed on the day or you can come as a team.
