🐝 Varroa Mite Management with Simon Phillips 🐝

We are fortunate to have Simon Phillips coming to speak with us at our next Club Meeting on 27 May. Simon is a Varroa Development Officer from the DPI, whose role is to assist beekeepers and bee clubs to increase their knowledge, skill, and confidence in managing Varroa. The DPI Varroa Development Officers are able to assist beekeepers with:

1. How to monitor for Varroa mite using one of the nominated surveillance methods.

2. How to determine mite loads.

3. The different types of control methods available whether it be cultural, mechanical, and chemical.

4. Implementing and managing a yearly integrated pest management plan.

The Varroa Development Officers are also available to join beekeepers in the field, spending time at their apiaries to offer hands-on assistance with varroa management as needed. They do not have a compliance role.
