VCANZ Workshop led by Helen O'Shaughnessy

An informative and hands-on VCANZ workshop session led by VCANZ Lead Helen O'Shaughnessy.

The workshop will help you move forward with your VCANZ application in a small group setting.  Helen will demystify and simplify the process.

When you become a validated member of Celebrants Aotearoa, you are demonstrating your commitment to professional development and to providing services of the highest possible professional standard. 

Once you are validated, you will carry the letters VCANZ after your name. This adds legitimacy and credibility to your celebrancy offerings, assuring your clients that you are providing a high-quality service backed up by the Celebrants Aotearoa code of ethics and professional standards. 

This workshop aims to:

  • Get you started with your application. 

  • Assist members who may be stuck or struggling to achieve VCANZ or finding the process technically challenging.

Date: Sunday, 21 September 2025
Time: 10:00am to 12:30 pm
Venue: The Grange, Davis Funerals, 400 Dominion Road, Mount Eden, Auckland
Cost: This is a free Connect Local Central Auckland event!

This is a hands-on session, bring along your laptop, or printed Ceremony  and PD templates, and you can work on specific parts of your submission.

You will be able to:

  • Gain valuable face-to-face/hands-on insights with VCANZ Lead Helen O'Shaughnessy!

  • Discuss VCANZ in general, solve problems and gain a greater understanding of what reflective practice is.

  • Complete two exercises to aid in reflection on ceremony and professional development.

  • You will complete one ceremony and one  PD entry by the end of the workshop.

Preparation for the Workshop

Attendees should be very familiar with the information and resources on the Celebrants Aotearoa VCANZ pages.

  • Read, and print out the essential guide to the process.

  • Jot down notes on 2-3 ceremonies important to you. Think about why you chose these ceremonies, and what you learned from them.

  • Have the Ceremony template, and the six reflection questions to hand.

  • Think about what professional development (This can include your Celebrant training, branch activities or workshops, conference attendances, books, articles you have read, online courses or certificates achieved, videos, lectures, work-related professional development that may be relevant, or learnings from other aspects of your life that can be repurposed for your Celebrant career).

  • Read about what reflective practice is.

  • Read and understand the Code of Ethics and Professional Standards and complete the test.

  • You can either download the two templates (For ceremony and professional development) to your laptop, or print out a hard copy of each.

On the day:

  • Bring a laptop and your thoughts and questions.

  • No laptop? please bring along printouts of the Ceremony and PD templates so that you can write.

We recommend you complete these items beforehand to get the most out of this hands-on session.

 

Cost of this workshop

This is a free Connect Local Central Auckland event.

Tea and coffee and a snack will be provided.
