Event description

VCOSS is hosting an online information session to provide an overview of the Victorian Government's new Victorian Early Leaver Connection Initiative (VELCI).

VCOSS members have long advocated for greater support for early school leavers. This welcome new initiative will help early school leavers stay engaged in education and training and successfully complete a Year 12 or equivalent qualification.

From Term 1 2025, early school leavers have access to:

  • a new Career Advice Service delivered by Skills and Jobs Centres across Victoria;
  • in target areas, mentoring and other supports for Koorie young people and young people with disabilities who leave school early;
  • supportive and quality options to complete Year 12 at TAFE.

This session will be hosted by VCOSS Director of Policy and Advocacy, Deb Fewster and will include representatives from the Senior Secondary Pathways Reform Taskforce at the Department of Education.

The Department will provide an overview of the VELCI and there will also be an opportunity to ask questions and explore how young people supported by the community sector can benefit from these new resources.
