A Night of Little Lights
A Colombian paper lantern workshop and fundraiser
Celebrate the start of the holiday season with a cozy, hands-on paper lantern workshop inspired by Colombia’s Día de las Velitas. Every year on December 7, families across Colombia light candles and paper lanterns along their streets, windows and doorsteps to welcome the Christmas season.
You’ll learn a bit about the history of the tradition, then make your own stained-glass-style paper lantern to take home, with Colombian snacks to enjoy while you work. No experience needed - all supplies are provided, including an LED tealight to light up your lantern.

Why we’re doing this
On August 10, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake hit Colombia. All proceeds from this workshop will go to one family whose home was badly damaged.
Alejandra lives with her parents and her three-year-old. Her mother, Embelle, ran a small hairdressing business from their house and had recently finished treatment for thyroid cancer. Her father drove a taxi. Because the house is no longer safe to live in, the family lost both their home and their main source of income.
The rebuild is being led by an engineer who has known Alejandra for years. The money will go toward repairing their home, and we’ll share receipts and photos once it’s sent.
