Event description

Centro de Cultura Canzuá is proud to celebrate 10 years in Australia. To honour this landmark, we are delighted to announce that our founding Master, Mestre Bocão is coming to Australia, for the first time, to share his vast knowledge and philosophy of Capoeira through diverse workshops during our event.

We will also have the honour of Contramestre Neguinho's presence, who will be sharing knowledge and skills alongside our Mestre.

Mestre Bocão founded the group Canzuá Capoeira in 1999, in his home city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. His philosophy is to work with Capoeira as a whole. He sees it as a universe that is interrelated in its various aspects, and it is only by gaining understanding of this whole that can lead to a better mastery of the parts that compose it. Through his teachings he seeks to understand Capoeira's traditional roots and the transformations that have occurred to this day, as well as the foundations and rituals that make up its practice in order to avoid the loss of its origins.

Mestre Bocão is passionate about developing the folkloric content present in the universe of this art, such as: Maculelê, Puxada de Rede, Samba de Roda, Dança do Fogo, amongst others.

Mestre Bocão works closely with researchers, anthropologists and historians who produce work in the field of Capoeira. This work has resulted in the creation of the 'National Centre for Documentation and Research on Capoeira', a very rich source of information and documentation for research on Capoeira.

We are excited for you to join us and enrich your Capoeira learnings through a series of intensive workshops covering a range of topics, as well as a deep dive lecture into the history and origins of Capoeira.

Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to drink from the source!
