Background and Context
The forthcoming visit of a high-level ministerial delegation from the Government of Gujarat, India, provides an important opportunity to deepen bilateral economic, technology, innovation and investment relationships between Australia and India.
The visiting delegation is led by The Hon'ble Shri Jitubhai Vaghani, Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Cooperation, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, Government of Gujarat, India, and comprises senior government officials and industry leaders representing a range of strategic economic sectors.
Gujarat is one of India's major industrial and investment destinations, with an established presence in advanced manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, engineering, textiles, renewable energy, agriculture, infrastructure and international trade. Its expanding technology and innovation ecosystem presents opportunities for Australian businesses, research institutions, startups and scaleups seeking entry into India and opportunities for international expansion.
The session is also positioned as a curtain-raiser for the 11th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027, scheduled for 10–12 January 2027 at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, India. The Summit will convene government leaders, global investors, businesses, innovators and industry organisations to explore international partnerships and future investment opportunities.
Against this backdrop, NSW Parliamentary Friends of India and inQ Innovation Global propose an exclusive interactive connect session at NSW Parliament House, bringing together the Gujarat ministerial delegation and selected leaders from Australia's technology, innovation, startup, investment, industry and research ecosystems.
The session is intended to move beyond conventional diplomatic engagement towards practical commercial partnerships, cross-border innovation, investor connectivity and market-entry pathways.
Key Objectives
1. Strengthen Australia–Gujarat engagement: Build direct relationships between the visiting Gujarat government and industry delegation and Australian innovation, technology and business leaders.
2. Facilitate Indian market access: Position Gujarat as a strategic gateway for Australian startups, scaleups and technology businesses seeking to enter, establish operations or expand within the Indian market.
3. Highlight government incentives: Enable the Gujarat delegation to present relevant investment policies, industrial incentives, innovation support mechanisms, infrastructure advantages and business facilitation opportunities, subject to applicable eligibility criteria.
4. Promote technology and innovation partnerships: Explore joint ventures, technology transfer, R&D collaboration, startup exchanges, industry adoption and research commercialisation.
5. Build investment and industry connections: Facilitate engagement between investors, venture capital firms, accelerators, incubators, universities and technology-based enterprises from both countries.
6. Promote Vibrant Gujarat 2027: Extend invitations to interested Australian businesses, investors and innovation ecosystem leaders to participate in the January 2027 Global Summit.
