Vic Park Community Portrait Prize: workshops
Event description
Try your hand at portraiture this Arts Season by taking part in these creative workshops led by the expert alumni of the prestigious Lester Prize. Let renowned artists guide you through the techniques of how to capture people’s energy, story and spirit through a range of creative approaches, mediums and styles.
Absolutely no experience necessary, in fact, the less the better!
$10 per workshop (heavily subsidised). Come to one, or come to all!
This series of workshops is designed to help guide, initiate and boost people’s confidence so you might consider entering the very first The Vic Park Community Portrait Prize (further details below, or click the link).
Workshop details
Draw Like the Old Masters with Anne McCaughey
Wednesday 24th April: 6pm - 8pm
Participants will work with traditional sanguine pastels and white chalk on a variety of papers (including the Artist’s own specialised paper which is specifically coloured to enhance the final drawings) to develop a work from a photograph.
- All artistic materials provided
- BYO apron
- Artist will provide photograph
- NOTE: If you are wanting to submit to the Vic Park Community Portrait Prize (see details below), you can BYO photo of your sitter
Portraiture from life, step-by-step with Andrew Daly
Tuesday 30th April: 1pm - 3pm
Participants will learn the step-by-step approach for the fundamentals of portraiture, painting from a live model using acrylic paints.

If you live, work, play or have ties to the Vic Park area, we welcome you to try your hand at portraiture to capture the faces, tales and diversity of this wondrous community!
Open to all ages, stages and styles. Beginners are highly encouraged to give it a go!

All entries will be featured in an exhibition at the Victoria Park Community Centre on Friday 19th July
