Victoria’s Debt Crisis: Where is the plan to fix it?
Chandelier Room, Hawthorn Arts Centre
Hawthorn VIC, Australia
Description
Your hospitals, schools, police and roads are paying the price for Victoria’s debt. Every year, a bigger share of your taxes goes to interest payments, and by the end of the decade that bill will top $11 billion a year.
Victoria’s debt is heading for $200 billion, and none of the major parties has a plan to fix it. Labor has racked up a massive debt and has a $4 billion hole in its spending promises. The Liberals have a $9 billion hole in their costings whilst insisting they will deliver a cash surplus by 2032. One Nation has a $4 billion black hole in its debt reduction plan.
Join Sophie Torney and Shima Ibuki, Independent candidates for Kew and Hawthorn, for a community conversation about Victoria’s debt and what it means for you.
Hear from leading independent economist Saul Eslake about what responsible economic management really looks like, and what a genuine plan for fixing Victoria’s debt would entail.
