Victory Community Matariki - Hāngī Tickets
Description
Celebrate Matariki with a traditional hāngī at Victory Community Centre's annual Matariki Celebration.
This year our hāngī will be served in handwoven harakeke rourou (kono), helping to reduce waste while revitalising traditional Māori food knowledge and practices. Choose from small (serves 2) or large (serves 4) portions, with a vegetarian option also available.
Join us for an afternoon and evening of performances, community connection, hot soup, fire poi, African drumming, a lantern hīkoi and more as we celebrate Matariki Herenga Waka – For Everyone.

Large rourou (serves 4) – $25
Vegetarian option available (stuffing contains egg)

Maximum of 2 tickets (up to 8 portions) per whānau
Please bring your own plate, bowl, cup and reusable cutlery if you'd like to enjoy your kai at the event

Hāngī Ticket Sales
Ticketing for this year's hāngī will be a little different.
We will be prioritising tickets for:
• People who have helped weave kono/rourou
• Victory Primary School whānau
We have provided access codes for these groups and pre-sales are available until 3pm on Tuesday 30th June.
Tickets Sales for General public will be available online or in person from Victory Community Centre from 2pm on Wednesday 1 July until sold out.
A vegetarian hāngī option will also be available. Please note that the stuffing contains egg.
Due to limitations within the online ticketing system, some vegetarian and mixed meat/vegetarian combinations may not be available for purchase online. If you require a vegetarian or mixed order that cannot be purchased through Humanitix, please contact Victory Community Centre and we will be happy to assist.
To help share the kai as widely as possible across our community, purchases will generally be limited to 2 tickets or up to eight portions per whānau. To help ensure the fairness of our ticketing system, Victory Community Centre may cancel or refund tickets purchased outside the intended allocation for that access code.
FAQs
- Can I purchase hāngī without attending the event?
Due to limited supply, we are prioritising hāngī ticket sales for people attending the event.
- When and where do I collect my hāngī?
Hāngī will be served outside the Hall at Victory Community Centre from 5.30pm.
- Can I bring my dog to the event?
Dogs are welcome to join the Lantern Hīkoi, provided they are on a leash, under control, and well socialised with children. Dogs are not permitted at Victory Primary School/Victory Community Centre during the main event.
- What happens if I can't collect my hāngī at 5.30pm?
Our hāngī is intended for people attending the Matariki Celebration. If you have purchased a hāngī ticket, please collect your kai as close to 5.30pm as possible. Any hāngī not collected by 6.30pm may be re-sold on the night to ensure the kai is enjoyed and doesn't go to waste.
- If I don't collect my hāngī by 6.30pm and miss out, can I get a refund?
No, refunds will not be provided for hāngī that are not collected by 6.30pm. We encourage you to collect your hāngī as close to 5.30pm as possible. Any hāngī not collected by 6.30pm may be re-sold on the night to ensure the kai is enjoyed and doesn't go to waste.
- What if I contribute 2 kono but would like to purchase more than 2 servings?
As we rely on the generosity of our community to help us weave kono for the hāngi, we are opening ticket sales early for our kono weavers, with the volume of tickets based on how many kono are contributed. If you weave 2 kono, you will be able to purchase 2 servings when ticket sales open to kono weavers. If you wish to purchase additional tickets, you may do so when the tickets sales open to school whānau (if you have tamariki at the school) or for general sales. There is a limit of eight portions per whānau, regardless of how you purchase tickets.
- Why does the number of servings I can purchase during the priority sales period depend on how many kono I contribute?
This year's hāngī relies on hundreds of handwoven kono made by community members. Offering early sales to our kono weavers is our way of recognising the time and effort contributed by our weavers, while also helping to ensure hāngī is available to as many whānau as possible.
- I want to have the vegetarian option but I can't see it online?
Due to limitations within the online ticketing system, some vegetarian and mixed meat/vegetarian combinations may not be available for purchase online. If you require a vegetarian or mixed order that cannot be purchased through Humanitix, please contact Victory Community Centre and we will be happy to assist.
