Make Polluters Pay: Victorian Training & Planning Day
Description
Since launching the campaign calling for a national Climate Compensation Fund communities across the continent have stepped up to make big polluters pay their fair share.
Hundreds of people have joined the campaign and Victoria is leading the way.
We’ve already seen the first community-led win, with Mount Alexander Shire passing a Polluter Pays motion for the establishment of the compensation fund and making national headlines. 30 councils across Victoria have been ‘adopted’ as a starting place for building powerful community campaigns.
Communities and organisations are now finding different ways to make this campaign work for them, because we all see a big opportunity for this campaign to shift the politics of fossil fuels in this country.
To build on this momentum we’re coming together for a one-day planning session, specifically designed for organisers in Victoria to build skills, share lessons, and grow the campaign to win a Climate Compensation Fund - paid for by big polluters, not communities.
Join us in Brunswick for a full day training to dive into:
A clear introduction to the campaign and how we win
Community Organising for Power
Group building, leadership development,
Power mapping, coaching
Conversations training: planning and practice
A plan to engage your council and pass a Polluter Pays motion OR design a campaign to work for your community
Time to connect and plan with others across Victoria
For far too long fossil fuel corporations have capitalised off resources, without paying their share or facing accountability for climate impacts.
With the federal gas tax making headlines and gaining steam, and the ALGA conference on the horizon, we have a clear window of opportunity to engage outside our bubbles and into our communities around fairness, and make the most of public sentiment to Make Polluters Pay.
