Sue Hodder
Wynns' Senior Winemaker
Sue's journey at Wynns Coonawarra Estate spans more than three decades, marking her 30th vintage in 2022. Beginning in 1993 as a winemaker under Peter Douglas’5 mentorship, she ascended to senior winemaker in 1998. With roots in Roseworthy Agricultural College, Sue's career started at Penfolds, where she honed her skills in vineyard assessment and winemaking before venturing to California and Bordeaux.
Throughout her illustrious career, Sue has garnered numerous accolades, including being named a Fellow of the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology in 2021 and sharing the Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year title in 2010.
Sue's influence transcends the winery, as she has served as Chief Judge in Adelaide, President of the Coonawarra Vignerons Association, and representative on the Limestone Coast Grape and Wine Council. Collaborating with industry bodies like the CSIRO and the Australian Wine Research Institute, she has contributed to advancing wine science and innovation. With milestones like the 60-year vertical tasting of Black Label Cabernet in 2017, Sue remains focused on the future, committed to embracing change while upholding a reverence for tradition—a testament to her enduring legacy in Coonawarra.
