Course Outline:

This practical workshop discusses common psychosocial barriers that can impact a workers recovery and return to work as well as strategies that can be applied to overcome these barriers, enhance decision-making, and improve return to work participation, commitment and behaviour.

During this course, we'll explore:

What are psychosocial barriers
What are the most common psychosocial barriers that occur on workers compensation claims
Strategies for overcoming psychosocial barriers such as harnessing emotional intelligence and applying motivational interviewing techniques to increase stakeholder engagement.

We'll also hear from expert speakers, Aaron Bowes - Customer Experience Manager, IPAR, and EML Mobile Case Managers Robyn Bruce & Tim Newman as they provide their insights into strategies that employers can adopt to help identify and overcome psychosocial barriers to return to work .

Course outcomes:

At the completion of this course, participants will be able to identify and effectively manage psychosocial barriers to return to work.

This course is applicable for a national audience and is aimed at Return to Work Coordinators specifically working in personal injury management.

About the trainer: Megan Hansson - Learning & Development Specialist, EML

Meg has worked in workers’ compensation, return to work and occupational health and safety for over 20 years. During this time Meg has applied her skills, knowledge and experience in a range of roles including as a trainer and facilitator, learning designer, advisor , Mental Health and WHS Specialist.

Meg has extensive experience interpreting legislation and is passionate about helping learners achieve their career and study goals.

Meg holds a Diploma of Workplace Health and Safety, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Diploma of Fitness and a Diploma of Human Resources.
