Peter Mahony has been heading the Powerhouse’s Education and Digital Learning Team for 26 years. Join us to draw on his wealth of knowledge and experience in this webinar.

Each year, Peter’s team engages with hundreds of school groups in onsite and offsite learning and engages with the Museum’s collection through authentic and deep learning experiences in the areas of Science, Technology and Design.

To scaffold learning within the museum context, the Education team are encouraged to practice and engage with visible thinking strategies. Visible thinking strategies were developed across a number of research projects at Harvard Universities' Graduate School of Education Project Zero. Visible Thinking strategies are a set of questions or a brief sequence of steps used to scaffold and support student thinking. They are aimed to encourage creative and critical thinking routines.

In this webinar hear how you can successfully use Visible Thinking Strategies for any of your programs or engagements with individual visitors or school groups to create an interactive and long-lasting learning experience.

The 30-minute online talk will be followed by a Q & A session.

Peter Mahony is Powerhouse Manager Education and Digital Learning. He established the Lab, a hands-on, immersive multimedia space for anyone to explore and learn more about digital technologies, an interactive space to play, make, imagine and create. He is also the co-founder of the Thinkershield, a classroom‑ready tool for STEM and STEAM education based on the popular Arduino board and programming language that brings the exciting world of electronics and computer control to anyone with a computer and a USB cable.

This webinar is part of the Powerhouse Museum’s 2021 Regional Public Program, a series of in-person and online events designed to support museums, galleries and tertiary institutions in regional New South Wales. Interested members of the public are welcome to register, however please note that the content will be targeted at people already working or studying in the museums field.
