Event description

Join us on Saturday 22nd November 2025 for an incredibly special event, the official opening of Visions: Through the Eyes of a Palestinian Prisoner, featuring the works of artist and former prisoner hostage, Mohannad Al Azzeh, held illegally in israel’s prison system, twice in his life.

Interviewed by Damien Linnane, editor of Paperchained (see p23 of link) a journal of writing and artistic expression from individuals affected by incarceration, Mohannad has sent direct from The West Bank, a series of paintings and drawings which will be exhibited at The Creator Incubator.

Exhibiting at the same time, is local artist Doug Heslop. "My practice charts a wide terrain from obliterated abstraction, to historical figuration and social commentary. If it doesn't make you think and feel, it's just decoration. Likewise, if it's easy, you're not trying hard enough."

AND……. we are so very lucky to have DOBBY opening this exhibition!

ARIA Award-winning artist DOBBY is a true force of nature, with his electrifying live performances leaving audiences spellbound. A rapper, drummer, composer, and producer, he brings an unmatched energy to the stage. Proudly identifying as Murrawarri and Filipino, DOBBY's roots run deep in the Aboriginal lands of Brewarrina and Weilmoringle in New South Wales.

His protest anthem "Until We're All Free" was nominated for an FBi SMAC Award for Best Video 2024. His song "I CAN’T BREATHE" won Best Video at the FBi SMAC Awards in 2020 and remains an anthem for Australia’s Bla(c)k Lives Matter movement, used in schools to educate students on First Nations justice.

FUNDRAISING

We will be raising funds for the Palestine Social Fund, who provide funding for cooperative farms in Palestine through grassroots efforts. These farms are started by youth who are returning to the land to reclaim food sovereignty and control their own destiny.

There are three goals:

  1. Returning to and protecting the land

  2. Providing a livelihood for workers that is tied to the land and our communal values

  3. Achieving food sovereignty and breaking the dependency on the occupation’s economy for produce and employment

"We don't take salaries ….. We don't make conditions …..We don't accept conditions” Palestine Social Fund

There will also be a Bake Sale (Muloobinba Food not Bombs) and fundraiser table (Newcastle Mums for Palestine) with proceeds going to families in Gaza.

Entry is by donation, this is a free event. However, people are encouraged to register and make a donation (suggested donations: $20 waged/$10 unwaged).
