While it can be tempting to only focus on subjects tied to a single specific job, the legal system relies on people with diverse backgrounds—from science and psychology to business and the arts. 09:30 AM: Meet at the front steps of the Supreme Court for an introduction to the day's goals and career insights.
09:45 AM: Proceed through mandatory security screening.
10:00 AM - 12:30 PM: Group entry into the courtrooms to observe live legal proceedings.
12:30 PM - 01:00 PM: Debriefing session on the steps to discuss the cases heard, legal career options, and how different high school subjects connect to the law.

What Cases Will We Be Hearing?
We will do our absolute best to observe 1-2 active proceedings.

However, please note that the Supreme Court manages a fluid daily schedule, and there is no guarantee which specific trials or directions hearings will be accessible to the public on the day.

GrainCorp Group Proceeding (Class Action)

Green v GrainCorp Oilseeds Pty Ltd (ACN 006 772 578) S ECI 2021 04524

A group proceeding brought on behalf of persons who owned or occupied land within one kilometre of the GrainCorp factory 46-50 McDonald Street Numurkah, Victoria at any time after January 2017, and allege they have suffered harm as a consequence of odours and/or noise emitted from the factory.

The plaintiff alleges that the emissions have caused a nuisance to him and group members, and that the defendant has breached a duty owed to them under s 25 of the Environmental Protection Act 1970 (Vic) to minimise the risks of harm to human health or the environment from pollution.

The plaintiff and group members claim damages for loss of amenity for disturbance to their sleep, comfort, health and wellbeing, and diminution in the value of their land as a result of the emissions, and seek an injunction to restrain the defendant from continuing the nuisance.
