VMDO Breakfast: A Conversation with Derrick Gee

Creating the Future of Music Discovery. A Guide for New Media Makers

TAKE TWO!

On Friday October 17th, VMDO will be joined by radio host and online culture curator Derrick Gee to discuss his blossoming career and how new media creators can carve new pathways for themselves in Australia’s music landscape.

Derrick Gee simply says he’s a “professional music fan” but in just a couple of years, the Sydney-based former radio presenter went from sharing playlists to interviewing Lorde in his lounge room. ⁣His unique content has attracted more than a million music fans, all turning to him for their next music recommendation. His music content is undeniably powerful, incredibly popular and… frankly, we need more of him.

In other territories a surge of influencers, podcasters and social media creators has emerged in the wake of dwindling traditional media. These creators critique and shape local culture and meet their young, tech-savvy audiences where they’re at. But Australia has been slow off the mark. What are the challenges for local creators and how can the broader music ecosystem support them?

On Friday October 17th, Derrick Gee will discuss this and more with Good Question’s Simon Winkler and Lauren Taylor at Tempo Rubato in Brunswick. VMDO warmly invites industry, marketers, PRs and new media creators -emerging or established - to attend this exciting event.
