Beyond the Garden Gate: Tickets are essential

A Rotary Vocational Learning Experience at Alameda Homestead Nursery

Discover the fascinating world of horticulture, the business behind beautiful gardens, and the opportunities growing within Australia's garden industry.

Have you ever wondered what it takes to turn a small plant into a thriving business? Or how science, technology, environmental responsibility and a lifetime of practical experience come together to produce the plants we enjoy in our gardens?

Join us for a special Rotary Vocational Learning visit to Alameda Homestead Nursery in Devon Meadows, a family-owned wholesale nursery specialising in the production of Clematis.

Established in 1991, Alameda Homestead Nursery offers a fascinating insight into an industry that is about much more than growing plants. It's about innovation, sustainability, problem-solving, business management and adapting to an ever-changing world.

What will you discover?

During this behind-the-scenes visit, we'll explore:

The science of growing: How plants are propagated, nurtured and prepared for commercial sale.
The business of horticulture: What it takes to operate a successful family-owned wholesale nursery in a competitive marketplace.
Sustainability in action: How water conservation, technology and efficient production systems are shaping the future of horticulture.
Careers and opportunities: The surprising diversity of skills and career pathways available across Australia's garden and horticultural industries.
The future of gardening: How changing lifestyles, environmental pressures and consumer expectations are influencing what we grow and how we grow it.

Bring someone younger. Plant an idea.

This event isn't just for Rotarians who love gardening.

We particularly encourage Rotarians to invite a younger family member, friend or someone curious about plants, the environment, science, technology or running a business.

For a young person considering their future, horticulture may offer opportunities they have never imagined. For a Rotarian, it is an opportunity to share an experience, start a conversation and introduce someone to the friendships, knowledge and connections that Rotary can offer.

You don't need to be a gardener or know anything about horticulture. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to discover something new.

More than a nursery visit. A chance to grow connections.

Vocational learning is one of Rotary's great strengths. Within our membership is an extraordinary wealth of professional experience, practical knowledge and connections that can benefit others.

But how often do we get the opportunity to see those skills in action?

This visit is an opportunity to connect generations, exchange ideas and perhaps inspire a young person to explore a career, discover a new interest or see Rotary in a completely different light.

After all, Rotary isn't just about what we do for our communities. It's also about the people we bring together, the knowledge we share and the opportunities we create for the next generation.

Come along, bring a guest, ask questions and discover what is growing beyond the garden gate.

Who knows? The most important thing planted on the day might be an idea.
