Voice to Parliament Forum
Event description
Not sure how to vote in the upcoming referendum?
What does a Voice to Parliament actually mean?
The referendum on constitutional recognition through a First Nations Voice to Parliament will be held on Saturday 14 October.
Some folks report they are confused about what the referendum means and what they will be voting on.
Engadine Uniting Church and the Bosco Social Justice Group invite you to join them to listen to the Uluru Statement, explore how the Voice to Parliament was born and the referendum question.
We'll also hear from local First Nations Elder, Aunty Dolly, on what a Voice to Parliament will mean to her.
When: 7.30pm - 9pm on Thursday 14 September
Where: Engadine Uniting Church, 2 Chipilly Avenue, Engadine
Guest Speakers:
- Jono Rowe, Church Engagement Lead, Uniting
- Aunty Dolly Brown, Dharawal First Nations Elder
- Dr Jackie Hartley, Policy Lawyer
- Angela Sidoti, Yes23 Sutherland Shire
- Margaret Day, Bosco Social Justice Group
- Sue McKinnon, Engadine Uniting Church
There will be a Q+A session. Attendees are invited to submit questions when registering or on the night.
Doors will open from 7pm. The event will start at 7.30pm and end at 9pm.
This is a free event.
You can find us on the corner of Chipilly Ave and Cambrai Ave in Engadine.
Public Transport: It is a gentle downhill walk from Engadine station that takes about ten minutes.
Driving: Council parking is in Chipilly Ave outside our front door, including two parking spots for cars with mobility parking permits.
Accessibility: There are a dozen steps up to the main entrance and an alternative entrance offering an internal stairlift – look for the white door to the left of the steps, with a doorbell. There is also level access via the fenced yard in between the church hall and the child-care centre: up a very gradual path and then a long ramp into the hall. We have a hearing loop in the church.
Numbers are limited and registrations are essential.
